About us
What we do: Groupe Terre is a pioneering social and solidarity economy group based in Wallonia, Belgium. It operates more than 15 social economy enterprises employing over 450 people. The group’s activities include the collection and sorting of second-hand clothing, waste management, manufacturing of acoustic insulation panels, and international solidarity initiatives. Its mission is to create stable employment opportunities for people distant from the traditional job market, promoting social inclusion and dignity through work.
Where we are located: The headquarters is located at Rue de Milmort 690, 4040 Herstal, Belgium. The group operates primarily within Belgium, focusing on Wallonia.
Short history: Founded in 1949 as Terre ASBL, the group began with volunteer-led collections of paper, old clothes, and metals to fund solidarity projects. During the 1970s economic crisis, it evolved to create paid employment for marginalized individuals. In 2012, Groupe Terre ASBL was established to better organize and centralize its activities, growing into a major social economy actor in the region.
Organization & culture: Groupe Terre employs over 450 collaborators who participate in a participative management and direct democracy model, where every worker has an equal voice regardless of position. The company culture is built on respect, listening, mutual aid, and shared responsibility. It values social inclusion, environmental respect, and economic viability, reinvesting profits to sustain and develop its mission.
