About us

What we do: Brasserie du Bocq is an independent Belgian brewery specializing in the production and distribution of high-quality beers. The company manufactures a diverse range of beer styles, from table beers to strong ales, serving customers across Belgium and internationally. With an annual production capacity of approximately 100,000 hectoliters and a turnover exceeding €14.8 million, the brewery combines traditional brewing expertise with modern production techniques. Their portfolio includes iconic brands such as La Gauloise, Saison Régal, and Saison 1858, which are distributed through supermarkets, specialty beer retailers, and traders across Europe and beyond.

Where we are located: Brasserie du Bocq is headquartered in Purnode, near Yvoir, in the Walloon region of Belgium, situated in the valley of the small river Bocq. The brewery operates as one of the largest independent breweries in Wallonia and exports its products to numerous countries including France, the Netherlands, Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain, Switzerland, the United States, Australia, Japan, China, and Russia.

Short history: Founded in 1858 by Martin Belot, Brasserie du Bocq began as a seasonal operation supporting farm workers during winter months. The brewery gained prominence in the early 20th century with the introduction of La Gauloise, which became an immediate commercial success. The company was incorporated as a limited company in 1949 and expanded significantly through the acquisition of Brasserie Centrale from Marbaix-la-Tour in 1967. After consolidating operations in Purnode in 1983, the brewery experienced a remarkable revival beginning in 2000, growing production from 55,000 hectoliters in 2006 to nearly double that capacity within a decade.

Organization & culture: The brewery employs approximately 51 full-time equivalent staff members, with 25 dedicated to direct production operations. While remaining a family-owned enterprise under the sixth generation of the Belot family, the company brought external expertise into its management structure in 2003 to overcome financial challenges and drive growth. The management team, led by Managing Director Francis Deraedt since 2000, emphasizes quality, discipline, and a collaborative work environment. The company values passion for brewing, structured performance, and maintaining a family-oriented spirit among its team members.

Recent developments: As of 2024, Brasserie du Bocq continues to operate as an active, independent brewery with strong financial performance. The company maintains its commitment to quality beer production and has established itself as a significant player in the Belgian craft beer market. The brewery produces two brews of specific beer types daily and continues to expand its distribution network while maintaining its traditional brewing heritage and family ownership structure.
