About us
What we do: Cercles des Naturalistes de Belgique (CNB) is a non-profit association dedicated to environmental education and nature conservation. The organization promotes curiosity and respect for ecosystems by encouraging active eco-citizenship among youth and adults. CNB offers a wide range of activities including nature discovery, specialized training, thematic visits, and environmental protection projects. Their flagship program is the Guide-Nature® training, a three-year course combining theoretical and practical lessons to develop eco-conscious naturalists.
Where we are located: The CNB headquarters is located at Rue des Ecoles 21, 5670 Viroinval, Belgium. The association operates over 60 local sections across Belgium, mainly in Wallonia and Brussels, with training and activities held in various locations including Brussels, Grapfontaine, Bon-Secours, Namur, and Vierves-sur-Viroin.
Short history: Founded in 1957 by Léon Woué, CNB has grown into a recognized organization by the Walloon Region and the Permanent Education Service of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels. Since 1975, it has been organizing the Guide-Nature® training, which has become a cornerstone of its educational mission. Over the decades, thousands of members have contributed to local environmental projects and nature education.
Organization & culture: CNB is composed of passionate volunteers and members spread across more than 60 sections. The culture emphasizes knowledge sharing, collaborative learning, and fostering a strong connection between humans and nature. The association values sustainability, active citizenship, and the development of essential skills through accessible training programs.
Recent developments: CNB continues to innovate by integrating new technologies such as geographic information systems in its activities and expanding its educational offerings. Its Ecosite in Vierves-sur-Viroin serves as a major naturalist center with a botanical garden, nature shop, and starting points for regional nature walks.
