Short history: Founded in 1867 near Charleroi by Jules Delhaize and his brothers, Delhaize has a long tradition in food retailing. It opened Belgium’s first fully self-service supermarket in 1957 in Brussels. Over the years, Delhaize expanded through acquisitions, including the Belgian Cash Fresh chain in 2005. In 2016, Delhaize merged with Dutch retailer Ahold to form Ahold Delhaize, enhancing its international presence and operational capabilities.
