About us

What we do: DNS Belgium is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to managing the registration of Belgium’s country code top-level domain (ccTLD) .be, as well as the generic top-level domains (gTLDs) .vlaanderen and .brussels. Established in 1999, the company ensures the operational and administrative management of these domain name zones, promoting a secure, accessible, and responsible internet environment. DNS Belgium serves a broad range of customers including businesses, organizations, and individuals seeking to establish a Belgian digital presence. The organization also facilitates cooperation among national and international internet stakeholders to maintain the security, stability, and interoperability of the Belgian internet segment.

Where we are located: DNS Belgium is headquartered at Philipssite 5/bus 13, 3001 Leuven, Belgium. This location serves as the central hub for its operations and coordination with partners and stakeholders.

Short history: The .be domain was originally managed by Pierre Verbaeten at the Catholic University of Leuven from 1989 until 1994. DNS Belgium was founded on February 2, 1999, by key technology sector stakeholders including ISPA Belgium, Agoria, and BELTUG, taking over domain registration responsibilities on January 1, 2000. In 2013, the organization rebranded from DNS.be to DNS Belgium. Since then, it has expanded its portfolio to include .vlaanderen and .brussels domains, launching these in 2015 under contracts with the Flemish and Brussels governments.

Organization & culture: DNS Belgium employs a diverse team of 53 professionals who work in a culture that values collaboration, integrity, creativity, and professional growth. The company emphasizes community engagement and work-life balance, fostering an inclusive environment that encourages innovation and teamwork.

Recent developments: DNS Belgium is recognized for its commitment to digital innovation and sustainability, holding certifications such as ISO 27001 and being acknowledged as a climate ambassador and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) champion. It is also a founding member of the geoTLD group, which promotes digital identities for cities and regions worldwide.
