Handicap International Belgium

What we do: Handicap International Belgium is a non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities and other vulnerable populations. Our mission is to address their essential needs, improve living conditions, and advocate for their dignity and fundamental rights. We operate globally in about sixty countries, providing assistance in situations of poverty, exclusion, conflict, and disaster. Our work spans disability prevention, rehabilitation, community services, healthcare, education, and advocacy, with a strong focus on inclusion and social justice.

Where we are located: Our headquarters are located at Rue de l'Arbre Bénit 44, 1050 Brussels, Belgium. We operate primarily from this Belgian office while being part of the larger Humanity & Inclusion network.

Short history: Founded in 1982, Handicap International Belgium has a rich history of intervening in crises and supporting vulnerable populations worldwide. We are recognized for our work against anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions and have expanded our mandate to include a broad range of disability-related services and advocacy efforts.

Organization & culture: With a team of 51 passionate professionals, we foster a collaborative culture that values diversity, resilience, integrity, respect, and compassion. Our organizational spirit encourages innovation and teamwork, aiming to make a tangible impact in the lives of those we serve.

Recent developments: As part of the Humanity & Inclusion federation, we continue to expand our programs in inclusive education, vocational training, and advocacy for disability rights, maintaining a strong presence in emergency and development contexts worldwide.
