What we do: The Société wallonne du crédit social (SWCS) is a public service offering alternative financing solutions for home ownership, rental, renovation, and energy-saving projects in Wallonia. We provide interest-free or income-adapted loans, including mortgage loans for buying or building homes, and personal loans for renovation and energy efficiency improvements. Our services are designed for households with modest, precarious, or moderate incomes, supporting access to property and sustainable living while preventing over-indebtedness. We work with a network of 31 local partners across Wallonia, who act as intermediaries or lenders, ensuring close support throughout the loan process.

Where we are located: Our headquarters is located at 10, rue de l'Écluse, 6000 Charleroi, Hainaut, Belgium. We operate throughout Wallonia via our network of local partners, with nearly 50 contact points available to the public.

Short history: SWCS was established as a public interest organization to support Walloon households in accessing affordable housing and sustainable renovation. Over the years, we have expanded our range of loan products and strengthened our network of local partners, becoming a key player in Wallonia’s social housing and energy transition landscape.

Recent developments: In 2024, SWCS secured a EUR 500 million loan from the European Investment Bank to finance energy-efficient renovations for approximately 16,550 homes in Wallonia, reinforcing our role in the region’s climate transition.
