Rainbow Crops
Rainbow Crops engineers climate-resilient, efficient, and nutritious crops for seed companies and farmers using AI-powered genome editing and precision breeding.
About Rainbow Crops
Rainbow Crops is a Belgian agtech startup, spun out from the VIB research institute, dedicated to engineering complex traits in crops. Our proprietary Trait Foundry™ platform leverages AI-powered multiplex genome editing, precision breeding, automated phenotyping, and multi-omics data to rationally design genetic diversity in plants.
We focus on improving challenging agronomic traits such as climate resilience (drought and heat tolerance), input efficiency, yield optimization, and enhanced nutritional value. By enabling the parallel improvement of multiple characteristics simultaneously, our technology tackles plant traits that have historically been difficult to enhance through traditional breeding methods.
Headquartered in Ghent, Belgium, Rainbow Crops primarily targets strategic partnerships with seed and breeding companies. Our initial applications have been demonstrated in corn, with planned expansions into sorghum and rice to support smallholder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
