Overview UPAV (Union Professionnelle des Agences de Voyages)
http://www.upav.beAbout us
What we do: UPAV (Union Professionnelle des Agences de Voyages) is the official professional association representing French-speaking travel agencies and tour operators in Belgium, primarily in Wallonia and Brussels. It defends the interests of its members by lobbying for favorable legislation, providing legal, fiscal, and social support, and promoting continuous professional training adapted to current changes such as mobility, climate, employment, and digitalization. UPAV also facilitates reliable information for travelers to ensure smooth travel experiences for both leisure and business trips.
Where we are located: The headquarters of UPAV is located at Rue de Rodeuhaie 1, 1348 Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.
Short history: Founded in 1937, UPAV has been a key actor in the Belgian travel sector for over 80 years. It has actively participated in shaping tourism laws and regulations and has strengthened its lobbying power, especially during the Covid crisis. UPAV represents around 145 member agencies with approximately 370 points of sale, supporting nearly 1,200 jobs.
Organization & culture: UPAV is a professional association rather than a commercial company, representing a network of independent travel agencies. It values collaboration, professionalism, and continuous education. The association fosters a culture of support and advocacy for its members, promoting alliances and proactive communication to evolve the travel sector in a global context.
Recent developments: Recently, UPAV has been involved in launching the Belgian Travel Confederation (BTC) to unify efforts with the Flemish counterpart VVR and other associations. It has developed a certification label (CerTA) for travel agents to ensure professional standards and legal compliance, and it continues to work with regional authorities to strengthen this label nationally. UPAV also actively addresses current challenges such as repeated strikes affecting airports, advocating for measures to protect travel agencies and travelers.
