Short history: Founded in 1425 by a papal bull from Pope Martin V, UCLouvain has a rich history spanning nearly 600 years. Following the 1968 split of the original Catholic University of Leuven, the French-speaking university established itself primarily in Louvain-la-Neuve from 1972 onward. It is recognized as one of the largest French-speaking universities in Belgium and consistently ranks among the top 150 universities worldwide.
