About us
What we do: SKYWIN Wallonia is a leading R&D competitiveness cluster specializing in the aerospace sector, focusing on Air, Space, Drones, and Defence. It brings together over 150 members including companies, universities, research centres, and training institutions to foster innovation and collaboration in aeronautics and space technologies. The cluster supports projects in drone technology, engineering, space applications, networking, and advanced R&D initiatives, contributing significantly to the Walloon aerospace ecosystem.
Where we are located: SKYWIN is headquartered at Business Village Ecolys, Av. d'Ecolys 2 - Bte 47, 5020 Suarlée, in the Walloon Region of Belgium. This location serves as the central hub for its network of members and partners across Wallonia.
Short history: Established in 2006 by the Walloon regional government, SKYWIN was formed through the merger of two associations: EWA (Walloon Aeronautics Companies) and Wallonie Espace, which promoted aeronautics and space sectors respectively. Since then, SKYWIN has grown to represent approximately 7,000 direct jobs and a turnover exceeding €1.6 billion, with over 90% of its products exported internationally.
Organization & culture: SKYWIN operates as a non-profit cluster organization that fosters public-private partnerships among SMEs, large enterprises, research centres, and universities. It emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and sustainable development within the aerospace sector. The cluster supports a culture of technological leadership, particularly in lightweight structures, propulsion, digitalization, and green aviation initiatives aligned with the EU Green Deal.
