La Sambrienne

What we do: La Sambrienne is the Public Service Housing Company (SLSP) serving Charleroi and Gerpinnes. It is one of the 62 Walloon companies accredited by the Walloon Housing Society (SWL). Managing nearly 10,000 housing units and over 2,000 garages, it is the largest in its sector. The company focuses on renting homes to the most vulnerable populations, constructing and renovating properties for rent or sale, and providing social support to tenants and prospective tenants.

Where we are located: The headquarters are located at Boulevard Jacques Bertrand 48, 6000 Charleroi, in the Walloon Region of Belgium.

Short history: The origins of La Sambrienne date back to 1922 with the founding of La Lodelinsartoise, one of fifteen local social housing companies in Charleroi. Over the decades, through mergers and evolutions, La Sambrienne was officially created in 2013 by merging five SLSPs from Charleroi. It is now the largest SLSP in Wallonia and celebrated its centenary in 2022, marking 100 years of public housing service in the region.

Organization & culture: La Sambrienne employs around 200 people dedicated to serving tenants and candidates. The organization emphasizes social accompaniment, innovation in housing policies, and sustainable development. It operates under a strategic contract (2020-2025) focusing on quality public service, sustainable housing, and organizational excellence.
