About us

What we do: BBTK is a trade union dedicated to representing and defending the rights and interests of white-collar workers in Belgium. As part of the ABVV (General Labour Federation of Belgium), a socialist trade union confederation, BBTK advocates for fair and equitable workplaces through solidarity and collective action. The union provides legal advice, coaching, training, and support to empower its 13,000 members across various sectors including administration, legal support, and public services.

Where we are located: The headquarters of BBTK is located at Maria Theresiastraat 99, 3000 Leuven, Belgium. It operates primarily within Belgium, serving white-collar workers nationwide.

Short history: Founded in 1920 as the General Union of Employees, Warehousemen, Technicians and Travelling Salesmen of Belgium, BBTK ceased operations during World War II but was re-established in 1945 as part of the ABVV. Over the decades, it has grown significantly, merging with other unions such as the Paper and Publishing Industry Union in 1996, and has been involved in major industrial actions and campaigns for workers’ rights.

Organization & culture: BBTK employs 68 dedicated staff members who foster a culture of integrity, inclusiveness, and collaboration. The organization values respect and engagement, supporting continuous personal and professional development through coaching and training. It prides itself on a diverse work environment and a strong commitment to social justice and equality for all workers.
