Barreau de Liège-Huy

What we do: The Barreau de Liège-Huy is a professional association representing over 1,000 lawyers who provide legal advice, conciliation, and defense services. It serves clients in various legal matters, ensuring access to justice and upholding the dignity of the legal profession. The Bar offers online consultations and supports lawyers in maintaining professional ethics and competence.

Where we are located: The headquarters is located at Place Saint Lambert 16, 4000 Liège, Belgium, situated in the Palais de Justice. The Bar unites lawyers from the Liège and Huy regions, functioning as a single professional order with two divisions.

Short history: The Barreau de Liège-Huy was formed in December 2020 through the merger of the former Bars of Liège and Huy. This unification was driven by judicial reforms and the need for stronger professional solidarity. The Bar traces its origins back to the period when the province of Liège was under French jurisdiction, reflecting a long-standing legal tradition.

Organization & culture: The Bar comprises approximately 1,093 lawyers, including active members, trainees, and honorary lawyers. It is governed by an elected council and a Bâtonnier (head of the Bar). The organization emphasizes professional ethics, continuous training, confidentiality, and respect for clients’ privacy. The culture promotes collaboration, legal excellence, and public service.
